In the past few years, I have posted a few times on the talk of a possibility, albeit an unrealistic one, of Nashville getting a high speed rail connection to Atlanta via Chattanooga.
Since the recent Presidential election there has been talk of rebuilding the infrastructure of the United States of America, with an emphasis on a new rail network. Apparently, a high speed rail network has already been approved for development in some areas. Of course, that doesn't mean anything is actually happening yet. But maybe it isn't a completely unrealistic possiblity after all.
Now, The Transport Politic has an interesting proposed high speed rail interstate network for the entire country. Nashville would be included on phase III, and would be connected to Chicago via Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Louisville. Then, in phase IV would be connected to Chattanooga and Atlanta.
Wouldn't it be nice. First things first--come on economy.
On another mass transit note, Mayor Karl Dean and a group from Nashville recently visited Cleveland to study their bus rapid transit system, as one of Mayor Dean's platforms is to implement BRT here in Nashville, bad economy and all.
